I am one of the Co-Directors of the SEC, and my major is Environmental Science with a focus in Ecology, with an Interdisciplinary Sustainability Certificate. I started with the SEC as a gardener in 2023, and it grew my passion for environmental resilience, sustainability, and environmental education. I became Co-Director last semester! I joined the SEC because I thought it was a great way to get involved on-campus and meet other people who are passionate about the same things I am. I’m really excited for my last semester with the SEC!

I joined the SEC because I wanted to transfer what I’ve learned as an environmental scientist into real action on campus. It gives me a way to work with people who care about protecting our local environment and providing for the community. Being in the organization is a daily reminder of why environmental sustainability and advocacy matter beyond the classroom.

Throughout high school I worked at a sustainable urban farm and it made me realize my passion for it. I think the ability to work with land to produce food in a way that is healthy for us and the Earth is very cool!

I love being outdoors, working with my hands, eating good food, and providing others with good food. As an SEC gardener, I can do all of the above! I’m so excited to learn more about urban agriculture and host environmental education programs.

Coming from a rural place in North Carolina, there wasn’t much to see in nature, but coming to Asheville showed me how much there was to love. As a recently converted nature lover, I am so excited to work as a gardener with the SEC.
